Basement apartments can be great, especially if you live in an interesting neighborhood. Capital Hill was a great neighborhood in the late '80s and early '90s. I hope it still is today. I haven't walked it in years...or sat in a basement apartment across from Wax Tracks (or however they spell that) or across from the crack house at 11th and Clarkson in an eternity. Whatever may have happened to Capital Hill, the Birdcage (when I hung out there an abandoned 7-storey grainery, graffitti, great place to watch trains, drink beer, toke, now high priced condos [lofts])--down by the river & the baseball stadium (that wasn't there when I hung there)--is closed to me forever...unless I can buy a piece of it at some point.
